Ok, so my thoughts are that it’s a 3-star read for a YA novel. It’s a fast, fun read. I really enjoyed some characters; while others I really, really did not like whatsoever. I did enjoy trying to figure out the “who did it”. I was absolutely wrong with my guesses. lol while I may not love this book I did quite enjoy myself and would recommend it to people. It was very fast-paced for me and while I usually read significantly different books than this; it was an enjoyable time. The excerpt on the back was quite realistic to what was in the book. The title, I thought was a cool twist because to most people it sounds like a book that has magical abilities, but, at the core, it’s just kids with natural gifts most people would have very little of. All in all, I’m glad I read the book and will look forward to reading the rest of the series. Apart from my usual spice rating; this book only contains kissing and that is as far as it goes. So if you’re thinking about getting it as a gift for someone I would definitely suggest it. – Stephanie
This was a quick, fun read. The concept was unique, not something I’d read before. I usually enjoy a good murder mystery, and this one was no different. The pacing of this story is one of the things that made it more enjoyable for me. There wasn’t a lot of time wasted on information that was not relevant to the immediate plot. Something exciting seemed to take place in nearly every chapter, and the chapters were short enough to blow through them pretty quickly. I wasn’t super-impressed with the big reveal. It seemed a little forced for me, but not so much that I wouldn’t recommend, it or that I didn’t move on to the sequel. 3/5 Stars 0/5 Spice – Jessi
The Naturals was a quick and easy read. The premise about teens who are naturally talented at profiling is very interesting, and getting to watch how they use their skills is impressive. I thought this was an interesting mystery story with lots of twists. I’m conflicted about what I think of the big reveal that this book delivers because, on one hand, I could not believe what I was reading and was shook to my core. I wanted soooo badly to talk to the other bitches, but they weren’t there yet. Also, with the PTSD I had from those last few chapters, you did not have to treat your readers that way, Jennifer! I would recommend this book to anyone who is interested in mysteries and thinks they can’t be surprised by a plot twist anymore. 3 / 5 stars – Emily
We are following Cassie, a 17-year-old girl, who lost her mom to a homicide. She has to live with her Father’s family and is working at a diner to make ends meet. It is at said dinner where she meets a guy who leaves a card from the FBI. The FBI is interested in her profiling abilities and wants her to go to a special school to develop her skills. This is where she meets other young adults with similar abilities. Cassie wants to go to this school because her own Mother’s homicide is not solved and she feels like she can solve it if only she can get access to this world. When strange murders start happening, she realizes she might have bit off more than she can chew.
This book was an easy, 3-day read, the flow was good, the mystery was better and the surprise at the end I did not see coming. I enjoyed the first installment of the series and can’t wait to start the second book. The character development is good and I am really interested to know more about these individual characters. What makes them tick, is their secrets and their horrifying past. I give this book a 3/5 star rating and 0/5 spice. You’re not reading this book for the spice. – Melissa
